Exam structure

The OTE Advanced exam covers four skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing

The Listening and Reading sections are computer-adaptive.
The Speaking and Writing sections use questions selected at random from a question bank. Both are marked by a team of experienced, specially trained examiners.

What is Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT)?
The tests are taken entirely on computer and apply adaptive technology to comprehensively assess four skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. In the Listening and Reading sections, question difficulty adjusts automatically based on the candidate's answers during the test. Thanks to this mechanism, the test measures each individual's actual ability more accurately while keeping questions at an appropriately challenging level — shortening test time and reducing psychological pressure.
